About Us

The Comparative Humanities and Applied Language Studies (CHALS Lab) is a dynamic research laboratory established within the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at the University of Agadir, Morocco. Specializing in Comparative Humanities, Translation and Media, and Applied Language Studies, CHALS Lab is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research and fostering academic excellence. Its primary research axes include:

1. Comparative Humanities: Exploring cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approaches to humanistic studies, focusing on the intersections of literature, philosophy, history, and cultural studies.

2. Translation and Media: Investigating the role of translation in media, communication, and cultural exchange, with an emphasis on the challenges and opportunities in multilingual and multimedia contexts.

3. Applied Linguistics: Addressing practical applications of linguistic theories, including language acquisition, discourse analysis, and the impact of language on society and education.

CHALS Lab aims to train and mentor Master's and doctoral students, promote collaborative research, and disseminate findings through publications and partnerships. It collaborates with academic institutions, public and private organizations, and international entities to enhance its research impact. Governed by an assembly of its three research teams—CLA@S, RTMS, and APPLS—the lab emphasizes resource optimization, interdisciplinary synergy, and the pursuit of innovative research projects. Funding is sourced from university budgets, research grants, and national and international programs, ensuring the lab's continued growth and contribution to its fields of study.
